Terry Crews’ Fave High-Protein Smoothie

What would be your last meal if you had the privilege of choosing? For Rob Lowe, it’s a medium-rare steak with a Caesar salad. For Jennifer Garner, it’s roast chicken, a big salad, roasted sweet potatoes and of course, pizza. And Terry Crews just shared his ideal last meal in a recent video posted on the YouTube channel Mythical Kitchen.

The actor’s choice includes 6 courses ranging from baby back ribs to his go-to Nobu order. But on the more practical side, Crews admits that there are certain meals that he includes in his routine that helped him get back on track post-NFL retirement.

First up, smoothies. Crews has been a fan of smoothies since the start of his health journey, even before they were cool.

“I remember people were like, ‘Smoothies? This is the way you can get your calories in and have your protein?’” the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor reflects. “It’s a meal and it’s a drink. That’s how old I am, because people didn’t ‘smoothie.’ There was no smoothie. It was like either ice cream or water.”

His favorite smoothie flavors include strawberry, mixed berry, citrus and peanut butter. But it’s clear that the nutty concoction is his favorite of the bunch.

“I love peanut butter, man,” Crews says. “With the Greek yogurt, I feel the muscles just building. This is some healthy fat, healthy protein [and] the Greek yogurt is great for probiotics.”

Crews loves a peanut butter smoothie for all of the right reasons. Because of its healthy fat and protein content, peanut butter is great for your heart, blood sugar levels and weight health. And Greek yogurt is a high-protein option that, as Crews mentions, is packed with gut-healthy probiotics. We’re calling this smoothie a win—and we think the actor would love our own Chocolate-Peanut Butter Protein Shake as it includes both of these star-studded ingredients.

On the savory side, the high-protein dinner that the America’s Got Talent host swears by is grilled bison ribeye, baked sweet potato and grilled broccolini.

“This meal is my first staple, official ‘I’m going to get healthy’ meal,” the actor shares. Bison meat is typically leaner than beef, making it a lower-fat option. This meat isn’t as accessible, but it’s a great occasional alternative to those looking for a healthier red meat. We love preparing bison meat into our juicy  Pimiento-Cheese-Stuffed Bison Burgers.

Plus, sweet potatoes are a gut-healthy, heart-healthy vegetable that are loaded with nutrients like vitamin A, fiber and potassium. And broccolini is packed with vitamins C, E and K which can help support your immune system, skin health and bone health, respectively.

We love that Crews’ typical meals surround fiber-rich ingredients to keep him satiated. Most Americans don’t consume enough fiber in their day, so the star is definitely setting a good example.
